intro
hello and welcome to sparkydog records. we're a collective of musicians, artists, and filmmakers who believe that the future of music, art, and film in general lies in deconstructing the massive corporate infrastructure that currently packages, markets, and sells us media. the original homebrew computer club, and the collective open source movements that have brought the world wikipedia, linux, blender, and firefox have shown us that there is an alternative way of creating and reaching out to the rest of the world.
we realize that the major labels, and even indie labels, have a lot of machinery in place that is attractive and alluring to the aspiring musician. we do believe that those that create
should benefit from their work, and be able to continue to freely create. we also see the intrusive long arm of corporate labels who reach in and shape our music culture and culture as a whole, and it is often by accident that new and interesting musical and artistic movements arise. we believe that a true free culture benefits us all - and that the we should work together towards establishing a this goal.
we hope to attract others to join us in the hopes of building a great record label in the spirit of atlantic records, subpop, rough trade, rca, emi, blue note, and others - but under an entirely new and different framework - one that is open, encourages free sharing and remixing, and one that has the potential to change the record industry as well as other forms of creative media.
what can you do?
if you are a musician, artist, or filmmaker who believes in the concept of free culture, please send us an e-mail. we would love to hear from you and possibly post your work. if you like our music, or have done a cool remix or music video, please let us know.
what's next?
we're starting out simple, and small, but we hope that the concept grows and that we could eventually produce and release major projects under a free culture framework. we firmly believe that there will one day be a free culture beatles, george lucas, picasso and dali. respect to pioneers such as banksy, as well as the crazy old guy who plays a beat up guitar down in churchills in miami. we also hope to establish a cool physical space to play and invite collaborators - more on this as we figure out how it will all happen.
do you want a lead role in a cage, or a walk on part in the war?
